Five Towns Neuroscience Research is a recently developed division of Five Towns Neurology, PC, a busy Southern Long Island/Queens practice that began in 1999 and has grown at an exponential pace to meet the diverse needs of the surrounding Long Island and Queens community. The practice was founded by David Steiner, MD, a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Neurology program and alumni of the Montefiore Headache Unit, where he trained with leaders in the field of headache and pain management.

Dr. Steiner went on to chair the Department of Neurology at Penninsula Hospital Center, a North Shore/LIJ Affiliate, and serve as Medical Director of their traumatic brain injury unit. He founded and directs the hospital's DOH designated Stroke Center. Dr. Steiner also runs the hospital's Neurology clinic. He is director of the local Parkinson's Chapter and has lectured for the Long Island Epilepsy Association.The combination of a busy office practice and busy hospital service focusing on stroke, provides a unique connection to patients.This creates unparalleled access for clinical studies and offers cutting-edge therapy for study candidates , who might not otherwise have access to such studies.

Migraine/Pain Management Professionals

Dr. Steiner has worked on several pivotal migraine trials within residency, fellowship and practice and is a frequent lecturer for many Pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, and OrthoMcNeil. He has worked on stroke trials and epidemiological studies regarding medical versus surgical management for Spinal Epidural Abscess.

Stroke Expertise

Dr. Steiner was the founder of the Peninsula Hospital Center Stroke Center and Stroke Unit in 2003, one of the first New York State Department of Health approved stroke centers in the New York City area. He has served as medical director of the Peninsula Hospital Stroke Program, Medical Director of their Traumatic Brain Injury Unit (one of only 5 in New York City) specializing in all areas of brain rehabilitation and specializing in post-stroke recovery and as the Chief of Neurology since 2001. Five Towns Neuroscience Research has been part of both inpatient and outpatient stroke trials research including NIH sponsored studies.

Epilepsy Specialists

Our epilepsy practice has worked on a number of pivotal trials with the newer antiepilepsy drugs and has a strong interest in synergy in polypharmacy and application of new agents for epilepsy management. We have been involved in all aspects of epilepsy testing including ambulatory and video EEG and work closely with regional epilepsy specialists in treating and staying on the cutting edge of epilepsy research.
